Has anyone successfully propagated a dieffenbachia before? Are there any tricks?
i did a few months ago. had one that had begun to root rot so i did root and leaf trimming and then split the stalk into three pieces which i suspended in water until roots developed again. 2 of the 3 are now growing well. and have multiple new leaves.
1 likeThanks for the reply, @szwatson! Dieffenbachia must be prone to root rot because I’ve now lost two as a result. I’m trying to save a clipping of this one. Are you able to point me in the direction of the article? Hoping it had photos of the propagation process, as I’m much more of a visual learner. (You can actually post a link if you omit the https and :// on the front. It will just post as regular text.)

0 likesi’m definitely no pro though so i’ll refrain from giving tips but i did follow a dieffenbachia prop article that i found online.

If there is a pup growing in the same pot you can gently separate them. You can also cut between notes on a stalk let the cut dry out and direct plant into a pot :)

If you keep getting root rot you may be watering too often or your soil is holding too much water. I water mine after noticing the leaves start drooping a bit
