Proplifted a bunch of cuttings from my friend’s plants (with permission of course 😉) and let them callous and now in water! This is my first go at water propping so any advice is welcome and appreciated! Most of them are Hoyas (the left has a monsters peru and a dragon tail rhaphidaphora that I have had in water for awhile now). I’m relatively new to collecting and love Hoyas so I would really like to see these guys root! Oh, I also heard that putting a cutting of pothos in can help, so each bunch has a pothos cutting.

Just wait a REALLY long time. Some will root others probably wont

I add Superthrive to my water propagations and it seems to help :) also don’t change out the water - the plants will release rooting hormone and other nutrients to help themselves root!

Are there different (preferred) brands of prop drops? I'm easily TT influenced, lol.

I didn’t see this question - if you google “prop drops” there is one product that shows in the results. I haven’t heard of other products similar to this, but it sounds like adding super thrive also works well. I have used it for the props mentioned above and I have decent roots growing from all of them 😬

The hoyas should root well. It was about 2 weeks before I noticed roots on my hoya wayetti and hoya pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian purple. This was my first time propagating hoyas. They have been in water for months. I fertilize and add SuperThrive plant vitamins after the roots grew out.

Sounds like I need some superthrive.

Patience is the key with water props! My last batch took around 6 weeks before the root formation was adequate where I felt comfortable enough to pot them for friends. 😊

Biggest lesson I learned is not to completely dump all the water out. I always just top it off. Something about the natural hormones or whatever. I also just use bottled water. (Now if the water is obviously gross then I change it.) Once the roots are at least 2” long you can transfer to soil!
