My friend gave me this aloe recently to rescue. All the roots had rotted/dried off due to underwatering. I’m assuming the best option would be to put it in water in hopes of growing new roots, but I’ve never grown aloe in water before. Can anyone give me advice on how to root it or what steps to take?

I have! It takes a long time, but it worked. You need to make sure you cut off all that dead/brown and give yourself a clean base. First you need to identify some root nodes so you know how high to cut. Lots of stuff on google for that :) Then you HAVE to let it callus. For that plant I’d probably let it sit for 3 days or so. Then put it in water so it’s covering the nodes but not going into the base of the leaves. After that you just wait :)

I would chop off any rot on the stem and plant it straight into soil. Aloe roots a lot quicker that way.
