Hello! Iā€™ve had my variegated monstera for over a year now and (embarrassingly) neglected it severely while Iā€™ve been busy this year. I bought this from a cutting from a massive albo, and every leaf since buying this plant , has been small and as itā€™s grown itā€™s become leggy and smaller as time goes on. Now Iā€™ve got more time this year, I really want to focus on taking time to care for my plants and want to give this plant the best chance to thrive. Any tips or tricks on what I can do to help her would be great.. Iā€™m half tempted to chop the top growth as itā€™s so leggy, convert to a smaller pot with a fresh mix and see how it goes. But just donā€™t know how I can promote bigger leaves!! Should I just propagate and try start again? Any help would be great - (photo for reference on how itā€™s been doing)

    She needs more light, more humidity, consistent temperatures and more food! I would fertilize with every to every other watering and add silica to the water to help prevent browning on the white variegations. Next I would invest in a grow light that is 6000 lumens or above for her . These plants need a lot of light at least 14 hours worth typically Iā€™m not sure about the area that you live in but for me to ensure that my plants get this that means timer grow lights I would also grab a humidifier or mist her more often Finally and most importantly check the roots and make sure that they are coming along nicely. I suspect that you might have used a rather large pot so instead of chopping her I would just repot her in completely new soil, preferably an aroid mix and with a smaller pot. Along with the other steps will ensure that your plant is strong and lively :))

      Thank you so much! I will Definetly try this. Itā€™s right next to the window but I keep my blinds half open half of the time so it doesnā€™t let the most light through. Also.. what Iā€™ve noticed is the nodes do not seem to be growing at all, they are facing towards the moss pole but donā€™t gravitate to it even though I frequently try to keep the moss pole wet. Is there any reason for this?

      Yeah, because of all of the things that I have mentioned that are not being met, this plant is just not thriving super well, so it has no motivation or the necessary requirements to really thrive and grow to the point of latching onto the pole. Once you start giving this plant what it needs, it will attach to the pole with some help. Watch some videos from Sydney Plant guy on YouTube! I found him massively helpful with my moss pole journey and his voice is awesome šŸ¤£

    mine get 14 hours of 36w sansi bulbs, fertilize and silica with every watering between Feb and Nov. I also have my deliciocas on wooden planks, their roots are too thick for most poles and theyā€™re all sizing up rapidly

      I had one of my previous plants .. a monstera dubia on a wooden plank and that did well.. is it like a similar thing?

    It happens to everyone, donā€™t beat yourself up! The white variegation is destined to brown in any variegated plant! The best way to combat it is with humidity, fertilizer, light, and water! Iā€™d get a grow light, a humidifier, and a strict care schedule. I find with my albo, the more consistent the routine, the better they do! For fertilizer, I use the miracle gro plant food sticks. People donā€™t like them because itā€™s basically plant crack, but I donā€™t really mind. You can also soak banana peels in water and water with that, and even dried, crushed egg shells (a hot commodity right now, I know) on top of the soil is good, too! You can also buy fertilizer from plant shops if thatā€™s easier, up to you! You can definitely do a chop n prop, tooā€”you donā€™t even have to chop the entire plant. That way you can be sure you wonā€™t lose the albo to a propagation that didnā€™t root. If you do, Iā€™d suggest using rooting hormone (I attached the type I use) since Alboā€™s arenā€™t cheap. It kinda gives a little more security of rooting

      I used to have a humidifier when I went plant crazy and had loads of alocasias , but when I got busy I sold them all - and the humidifier just got backed up and began to smell šŸ¤£. I decided to chop the top growth to give it a fresh start and Iā€™ve been opening my blinds from morning till night where normally Iā€™d have them half open , thatā€™s a good shout! I might buy a grow light bulb as I have a dressing table right next to my monstera so might be able to screw one in there. This is what itā€™s looking like at the minute. Thereā€™s also a small root growth on one of my propagations. Which Iā€™ll attach šŸ«  there might be some hope. I donā€™t want her to just cope I was her to thrive so Iā€™ve decided to just see how she goes and take it from there? But Iā€™ll Definitely invest in some fertiliser. The banana peel seems like a good shout!!

      Eggs are extortionate in the uk lmfaoo stop youā€™re so funny! Totally unrelated but do u wanna adopt me? For the humidifier, because they can start to get nasty, adding a cleaner can help with that!

      OoohšŸ˜® Costco do cheap eggs atm haha! So Iā€™ve not noticed. Thatā€™s amazing! Iā€™ve just ordered a humidifier so will definitely do with ordering that thank you so much
