Hello! I had to repot my Chinese evergreen because the soil wouldnā€™t get dry and I kept getting mold on top or the soil. My leaves were turning yellow and the gnats wouldnā€™t stay away despite putting cinnamon on top. When I took the plant out I noticed root rot. Most of it just fell off on its on. Iā€™ve cleaned it really well with isopropyl alcohol and water. My question is do these parts of the plant look well enough to repot with the rest? Or do they still seem contaminated and need to be thrown away? Any help is appreciated. TIA

    First off great job at all the steps you took already! Most donā€™t do that lol, so my question would be does the rhizome (stem thingy) seem squishy in anyway? Iā€™d probably cut it at an angle a little up from the bottom to see what the inside looks like too

      Thanks so much for responding. Itā€™s actually not squishy at all. Itā€™s very firm. Some of the roots were rotting but there are still some healthy ones attached.

      Of course! Good! Okay, so Iā€™d take off any rotting roots and then dab the areas with alcohol, then Iā€™d still cut off the sketchy parts of the rhizomes just because donā€™t want the rot to travel into the new pot and whatnot. Then let it callous overnight before you pop it into the soil

    I had a peace lily with root rot recently. I cut away all the rot and put it in water with peroxide and that has helped get rid of some of the smaller pieces that I couldnā€™t see.

      Iā€™ve read that peroxide is really good at getting rid of the rot. Thanks šŸ˜Š
