I moved all of my plants to my balcony on my north facing wall, so it only gets about 3-4 hours of afternoon sunlight. I thought that would be fine, and if anything not enough direct light, but then I noticed some discoloration/bleaching on the leaves of my velvet leaf philodendron and prayer plant… Is this just a sunburn? Can it be remedied with simply moving them out of direct light? Or does it look like it could be something else? A little more context: the prayer plant I repotted from a pot with a mold issue, and the philodendron I most recently bought and repotted from its nursery pot.

    If you recently repotted them, it may just be transplant shock. Are they older leaves that are turning yellow?

      On the philodendron, there are a few newer leaves that look sick- yellower and slightly spotted

      Newer leaves can also be affected by transplant shock. The plant is pretty much trying to figure out how to best spend its energy to get acclimated. A lot of times the older leaves may die off, but if a newer leaf isn’t fully developed, the plant may decide it doesn’t want to continue putting energy into developing it while it’s adjusting. I usually just prune off the dead/dying leaves and give the plants a few weeks to fully adjust.

    Hey. I noticed that my plant didn’t like being as close to the window from May onwards. So I moved it slightly away and the yellow and leaf curling stopped and it started ‘dancing’ in the evenings again. So I have a feeling maybe it doesn’t like as much of a direct light?

      Yes I moved it a bit further away and it’s definitely happier!
