Well I’m definitely still a plant newb lol. I purchased a couple begonias from a guy off marketplace yesterday. One is called Looking Glass, the other one is called Muara Mahau (not listed in Planta App, I did ask them to add it). I didn’t ask any questions about them and just assumed to care for them like I do my polka dot begonia. I was wronggggg. Well the Looking Glass is fine, the care is just like my polka dot but the other one needs to be in a terrarium, which I didn’t know until I messaged the seller this morning. I woke up to a nearly dead limp begonia. After messaging the seller I threw a cup over it, ordered a terrarium from Amazon (arriving any minute) and went to work. Came home, happy to see condensation inside the glass. He seems to be recovering slowly. Less limp but still leaning heavily. Hopefully tomorrow he will be standing tall again. Here’s a pic from yesterday and this morning and right now (just changed glasses to a taller one as he was about to run out of room to stand up lol

Mom has a really nice begonia but it wasn’t doing good due to neglect. She took some of the healthier bits and repotted about a week ago and gave it to me. Leaves had a bit of brown tips before I received. She said it didn’t have strong roots either. Any advice for rehabbing this thing back to life?

Hi all, I just wanted to share with any other new(ish) begonia parents a little story about recovering from whoopsie moments. The first photo is me opening up my new plant parcel that, amongst other things, had the most expensive Begonia rex I’ve bought to date ($30!! lol). Isn’t it pretty?! So, about 3 hours after I opened the box I somehow managed to knock it off a shelf I’d placed it on while I finished setting up the shelves and grow lights for its new home. I took a peek around the shelf and I had somehow managed to knock every leaf off my poor baby and cracked the plastic pot. Now, I should’ve maybe prefaced this with the fact I’m super clumsy, but I feel like that may be alarmingly obvious by now. I swore and laughed, mostly so I didn’t cry, and began googling. I then set up my first ‘prop boxes’ in takeout containers and cut up three leaves, leaving the veins as instructed. I took the biggest and healthiest leaf and put it in a lidless jar with distilled water. Then put them all under the grow lights. I waited until the next day to sort the pot as it was ok until then and I didn’t want to water it in its new pot just before I put it to bed (aka turned out the lights). I slipped it into a new (well, new for her) pot the next morning though, with as little touching as possible, watered and put under said grow lights. And then I waited. The leaf parts went moldy pretty quickly. I salvaged two pieces from three boxes *rolls eyes*. The big leaf in water has started to grow roots, but it’s like it got confused after it started. I’m giving it some time and space to deal with its trauma. I figure it will tell me when it’s ready to discuss moving forward. The biggest result was from the stem that was left in the pot. I’m sure old hands a begonia parenting won’t be surprised but I was. If you check out the second picture, you can see the very start of the first leaf of her new life. There are also sprouty things in a few spots. We’re playing wait-and-see as to what they are, because they look different and were originally grown outdoors. So, to all the begonia buddies out there, take heart, if you’re a klutz too, our beautiful little plants are somehow fragile and delicate while also being made of steel (though I haven’t ruled out the possibility of magic or maybe faeries).

Hi guys!! Very very very new plant dad here. I purchased this begonia in summer this year, I followed instructions on how to take care of it online but the poor little guy did not want to survive my office, it's fairly dry in here so I made sure to mist it and made sure the soil was nice and moist but still it did not wanted to thrive. I think it's gone now, just the stem is here. Is it too late to bring her back?

Feels like I’ve had this begonia for longer than 23 days lol. Got her with 3 leaves. We’re up to 6 now with a 7th in the way. The bright red leaf is the newest one

Hi buddies, what do you do to keep your begonias from crisping on the edge of their leaves? Doing my best to keep its environment humid enough with a pebble tray and small humidifier. Could it be the tap water?

Some new Begonias I received today from Botanicaz. Putting them in my greenhouse cabinet to acclimate. 🥰

Looking so vibrant and giving some fall growth!

Just received this Silver King in the mail last week and every adult leaf was damaged 😭 gave it some time to see if they would make it but just had to chop, wish him luck on his recovery 🍀 🤞🏻 🍀

Hi I bought these 3 cuttings, the first two look a bit rough as they took some time to Root but they’ve all Rooted and two have new leaves, just wondered if anyone can tell me what sorts they are? Are they different, the spots seem different? Thank you

Hi all! I just wanted to share my find from yesterday because I am blown away by how beautiful this plant is. Label says Begonia “Black Beauty”. Very recent to getting into plants, however have found Begonias to be striking plants - very quickly becoming one of my favourite types of plants! If you have any recommendations on how to appropriate care for this guy, please let me know. I have a Begonia Polly which I absolutely adore, but feel this guy might be a bit more finicky! Happy planting!
