I have a beautiful Rex that has been doing so well in the 4 months since I got it. It sits in a low shade part sun window and has been thriving. Recently I noticed a couple of leaves were burned so I thought maybe the light was too strong and moved her to a shadier spot. Since then, she has taken a NOSEDIVE and nearly every leaf is wilting, falling off, and shriveling up. I moved her back to her original spot, but no change. I thought maybe she was too wet so I repotted her and gave her distilled water but she is sooooo mad. Is she goner or can I still save her? I suspect I was watering her too much and maybe that’s why she got crispy in the first place?

Need help! I have a begonia melanobollata and west Texas blizzard. I’ve been having an issue with the tiny new leaves off the rhizome just rotting off. It’s been rotting where the leaf meets petiole. I can’t get a feel for if it’s too much or too little water and looking for insights. Both my problem plants have very hairy new growth. I thought maybe it was water sitting on the new bits but I also know melanobollata likes terrarium conditions so I’m confused. I have other Rex begonia I have no issue with.

So my begonia looked great when I first got it. I put it on my back balnconyI’ve been giving it water when the app tells me too with water from my brita. It’s been a couple weeks and I haven’t fertilized it yet— I’m wondering if it’s looking so rough in the second picture because A) maybe too much sun? Or B) it rained recently which I logged in the app and I’m not sure if that made me overwater it? I ended up moving it inside per my plant friends advice, and I also have a shadier spot at my front door. I don’t know what kind of soil it came with so maybe that’s a problem too? Any advice would be so helpful

New to begonias, got one for my birthday last year and it's been doing fine. Today when I went to water it, I noticed that there were white spots all over the soil. I'm hoping it's not fungus and that it's maybe mineral buildup from our hard water. But does anyone have a clue on what's going on here? More info: I usually keep it by our south facing back door on a shelf. I try to water it whenever the soil feels dried out and it feels lighter, but sometimes I do miss waterings. It's probably in need of a better spot for sunlight, but I've not been able to find something better or a way to put it in a window out of reach of my cat.

I just got 2 new begonia hybrids today and they look very interesting but I discovered while repotting them that one section of rhizome broke from the main plant and only has a single root coming from it. It looked healthy on that section otherwise and it has a new leaves in the damaged one so it should be fine right? I also discovered two of my other hybrid begonias were developing root rot from the cruddy soil I bought them in so today I repotted all 4 begonias. This is them in my sink after freshly watering them in to their new plastic pots with extra drainage. I have some cloches that came with these pots to keep humidity in however I think those big begonias will not fit one bit. (Also say hey to that freshly replanted pair of alocasia that Ive had for a week) I’ve also just acquired an evaporative humidifier to keep the area around these more humid so that we don’t get crispy leaves.

My Rex begonia is pushing new leaves like crazy, but I’m a little confused on why the new leaves are coming with way more silver on them? Is this good? Or do I need to adjust something with the lighting?

I would love to see pics of your gryphon begonias if you have them. This is my first begonia and I feel like it only took about 3 years for me to finally find the perfect place and lighting and watering schedule for it to thrive but I’m a bit self conscious about how the lower part of it is so empty/stemmy. Is that normal or just the result of me nearly killing it so many times? New baby plant shoots are sprouting and filling it in which helps the appearances a bit.

found this gorgeous girl at my local publix. i can't believe she was only $10, i had to get it!! the leaves are so dark and glossy, i'm obsessed. this is definitely not a normal maculata but i'm not sure what variety it is, looks like a black forest maybe? anyhow, this is my second ever begonia, and my last one.. did not go so well. hopefully this one being a cane begonia will make it easier 😅 taking all the tips and tricks!
