Hello! I’m new to the group and a fairly new plant mom. I recently purchased some new plants. One being the tornado dracanae. It has seemed to develop some black leaves in the center of the plant. It’s fairly small, no more than 5 inches tall. I read in another blog to remove the leave and add cinnamon. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I can add that these plants do better when watered with distilled. There may be something else going on there, possibly with the roots and watering routine. I second a pic! That would help us.

Dracaena can quickly get stem rot and leaf spots from overwatering. Also, watering the leaves in the center can leave standing water prone to bacterial and fungal infections like ‘black stem rot.’ Cinnamon can’t fix rot. This probably won’t survive since it’s so small and appears rotten at the core. Toss it before you end up with pests that like to lay eggs near rotting plants and roots.

Oh no. She is definitely one of my favorites. I’ve only watered once. And I literally just got her maybe a week ago. Maybe I can return and get another.

Crown rot. Remove affected leaves. And water from the bottom.
