An someone help ID please? Literally got it an hour ago thought it may be a black velvet but not sure as the leaves look very round

Is this just the usual alocasia low humidity issues or is there something else I should know???

Newbie I bought an Alocasia cuprea today. I maybe should have learned about this one before buying it. Impulse! I read they are sensitive to cold and do best in a warm room, like 77 warm. I keep my house at 65 in the winter. The plant is in a warmer part of the house, but it’s maybe 68? It will get 3-4 hours of direct sun. I am seeing inconsistent info on how much light. What’s been your experience with temperature and direct sun? Any other advice?

In case anyone is coveting the “purple” Alocasia longiloba: I’m pretty sure that’s not actually a different variety from the standard; the purple is just something they do when they get really high levels of light. The two photos on this post are of the same plant. The more typical looking leaf grew in a north-facing window. The purple leaf grew directly after that one, but I’d moved the plant to a very bright grow box. From what I’ve seen, sellers are still saying the purple form needs bright light to get that color, so I don’t think it’s different. I’ve had this happen with two longilobas from separate sources, so I don’t think it’s a fluke. Before you shell out 10x the price for the purple version, consider getting the original and giving it lots of bright light.

I had this rooted Alocasia Mystic bulb sitting in water to help the roots develop a bit more. I noticed it smelled really bad and it was rotting at the bottom. If I had to guess I'd say it's because the container I had it in was too small. I went to rinse it off but a good chunk of the bottom was really soft and spongy and washed away. Do we think it'll survive? Any tips?

What the heck… so this plant hated me at first and didn’t do anything for like a year. Then she started putting out leaves and big ones, doing great! She even flowered, I cut them off after they died back, which just also happened to be right before she started looking sad. Then we got some spider mites (I think and I think I caught them quickly). So I treated with insecticidal soap this last week, moved her to a bigger pot about 4 days ago because I thought the yellowing limp leaf was a sign of root rot. (Roots are fine). We’ve had spider mites before and have never done this, usually I rinse and treat once and she is fine. First picture taken on 2/13 with the flowers. Second picture taken today. Did I make her mad? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Can someone help me confirm this ID? Is it a Silver Dragon Albo or Dragon Scale Albo? Or something else? Thank you

I’ve been keeping plants for a while now and can’t seem to find anything on this. But my alocasia maharani produced some corms, so i planted them to wait and see new babies. Well as you can see the leaf on this is almost completely white. So some how my alocasia maharani produced an albo variegated plant. sport variegation maybe?

i am wondering what type of alocasia i have? it was labeled as a black magic at the store.. but she seems too “shiny” almost to be like the ones in the pictures. and maybe a bit more purple (but that’s also the flash). side note: she will be getting new soil/pot, it is coming soon plz don’t judge😅 i know she looks SO SAD rn. but if you know if the self watering pot from gardenix decor on amazon is good then plz lmk so i don’t kill her. and she is my first alocasia so any tips are welcomed. TIA

I repotted my plant and I've already lost 2 leaves and now I'm about to lose another. I also cleaned the leaves with neem oil after the other 2 fell off. I checked the soil and it was dry so i watered it. Im not sure what i did wrong. Can you help please?.

Just a shout out to some of my favorite Alocasias!

Hi everyone, I’ve had this black velvet for just under a year and it has always been in pretty good health until the last few new leaves, I know it’s normal for them to drop old leaves every so often but a pattern has occurred over the past four new leaves, first one came out well and second almost kind of rotted before even beginning to get anywhere near to fully grown. The third leaf came out great and now I’m onto the fourth and it’s rotting from the top down again, any idea why this could be happening? You can somewhat see where the new sprout is slowly decaying.

Hi plant people! Reaching out for help with the rescue Alocasia Polly: this guy lost 4 leaves in the span of a few weeks. For some context: I'm watering him as per Planta's suggestions, every 13th day, misting leaves thoroughly every second day. Fertilizer has been used twice since we bought him early last month. There was a pest problem: white spots on the plant, either thrisps or spider mites, I treated with all-purpose insecticide, hydrogen peroxide solution, rubbing alcohol, and repotted to make sure the soil is new. That's what's been going on with him in general. I'd like some insight into the dead leaves, is it from pests if they are still present, or is there some other issue that needs fixing, related to water/light? Thank you!

It never did grow back it's second leaf that it had when I got it last summer, I don't think it's dormant because I keep the sunroom heated to about 66° with a space heater and a big humidifier usually around 55 to 60% humidity I'm always so afraid to lose my tropicals, it seems to prefer the darker side of the sunroom the one leaf when I got it twisted like a curly fry and turned red and died after I zip tied it to a chopstick 🤦‍♀️ , I do have this one on a chopstick too but it seems to be okay 🥴🪴😵‍💫🫶🙏 ( I live in Indiana it's 23°F outside)

Hi! First time Alocasia owner here and looking for some advice 😅. Just got this lovely little frydek and I’ve seen conflicting advice on soil. She’s in my super chunky mix right now but wondering if that’s best or if she needs something with more water retention? Thanks!!
