My neighbor just brought her dragon scale over and asked if I could fix it. 😳 I only have experience with a very slow growing Polly that I absolutely baby. Can anyone please tell me what is going on with this dragon? The soil is damp but not wet from top to bottom. She said it was in the back of her house in the window so that is east facing. I have no idea where to start. I was thinking it could be our well water because we have higher levels of lime but I just don’t know. Any help would be appreciated. I really want to save it. It’s a super cool plant. 🪴

    I usually water mine when the soil is about halfway - 2/3 dry. It likes bright light and humidity. Probably one of the easiest alocasias in my experience!

      Thank you! Any thoughts on why her leaves turned yellow?

      Probably has to do with the past watering schedule. More consistency in the watering should help eliminate any further yellowing. You can cut off the two most yellowed leaves once they start wilting a bit more and all of the green is gone from the leaf. unfortunately they’re probably done ;( keep the middle leaf tho since that one has the most green

    I’m not an expert but I have a couple of dragons that are growing well! Looks like overwatering to me? I would check the type of soil it’s in - and also check for root rot. Alocasia like a light and peat free, airy mix (see the picture - mine looks a lot like this). A mix of bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir, worm castings and activated charcoal works well. I also have mine in terracotta pots so they’re almost impossible to over water but I do have to water them a lot so… not ideal for everyone. If the well water is heavy in lime, it sounds like it’s a hard water. Filtered water or distilled water would help a LOT. I water my alocasias, anthuriums and calatheas exclusively in distilled water. Long story short… soil, overwatering and water quality?

    Yeah it looks like a soil with a tiny bit of orchid bark and a lot of perlite. I will repot her when she dries out a bit more. Thanks so much!
