I need help with my first Alocasia! I picked him up about two weeks ago, repotted about one week ago. He has a new leaf coming in but he’s already killed his first leaf to the point it fell off. I know that’s kind of what they do when growing new leaves to be able to get enough nutrients but he’s now almost killed a second leaf and almost halfway through the third. The biggest leaf also has a starting spot on it too! I fertilized him last watering. I hope I’m not killing him!

May be root rot by the blotches I’m seeing, pots too big and it’s probably over watered as the substrate seems to be just a normal houseplant mix, alocasia like really airy soil and they like to dry out, take it out of the pot, if the roots are mushy and brown cut them off, place it in some straight perlite/sphagnum moss and hope it grows roots back 🫶

I only just repotted last week and roots looked wonderful and outgrowing the older pot so hopefully there’s still time! I can’t pick up soil today as I live out of town but hoping to go in the next day or two… any tips until then or just hope for the best?

Okay, have you got a smaller pot? If so put it in it and use the same soil, this time it’ll be in a less dense clogged soil and should dry out a little quicker, as for soil I’d recommend, coco coir perlite and some pine bark, you can also try semi hydro if you want

Just moved my alocasias over to hydro cuz they were quite finicky in the soil. Was told they’re super sensitive to overwatering so be weary and make sure the soil has good drainage.

The soil does seem very dense, this is what my alocasia soil mix looks like. It’s a mix of perlite, bark, coco chips, horticultural charcoal and regular potting soil.
