I’ve been growing some a bunch of different tissue culture alocasias for the last couple of months. Some of the first new leafs are coming in so much larger than what I started out with and can’t wait for these plantlets to grow 😊

    Do you grow them in pebbles or river rock.. no dirt?? Please advise. I had trouble with my previous alocasia but have another I’m going to try.

      I started these baby plants in a Perlite (60%) / Fluval Stratum (40%) substrate mix, no soil at all and I’ve seen people use 100% just perlite or just fluval stratum too. They seem to all love it so far and once they have a more established root system I’ll be transitioning them to a PON substrate which is a mix of porous rocks. A lot of people like Lechuza brand PON with some fertilizer pellets mixed in but I went with PON brand, TheBasementsNYC, I found on Etsy and then just water in liquid fertilizer every feeding. I would definitely look up some videos on YouTube for Alocasia care, a lot of them recommend a semi hydro setup for Alocasias instead of soil and I would definitely recommend the same. They do need a little extra TLC when you transition to semi hydro and may take a couple of weeks for adjustment but mine seem to love it so far! This Frydek was the first one I transitioned to PON two months ago and has been thriving 😊
