So I hope I didnā€™t make a big mistake BUTā€¦.. Today I watched several Alocasia care videos on YouTube and I repotted my two alocasias - variegated frydek and mint green dragon scale. I used a method I watched where she used a bottom layer of about 2 cm of leca, a thin layer of sphagnum moss, an aroid mix with the plant roots and then another thin layer of moss on top. It needs to be in a cover bowl with water as high as the bottom leca layer. The girl in the video had gorgeous Alocasia so I hope it works. Iā€™ll definitely post updates. They still look perky so I hope they do OK. Now I think I should flush it out with water once a week and then change the water in the cover bowl. Does that sound correct? I guess if they start to fade I could just replant them in a chunky mix.

    The only thing id point out is to watch the top moss. As if it stays constantly wet. Covering the top of the corm it can rot them. I dont keep any corms in moss anymore because of this. I also live in a humid place, so if someone lives in dry, it might dry out to not be an issue

      Thank you for the tip. In the video she said what she does is let the top moss dry out until just slightly damp between watering and use that as a guide. She also said in the cover pot there shouldnā€™t be so much water that thereā€™s much left in the bottom when you next water the plant. Iā€™ll keep an eye on it though. I do live in a dry area.

    Adding to wolfen - if youā€™re worried about mineral build up, you can bottom water so you can skip the flushing step. Bottom watering will keep most of the salts and minerals at the base of the pot instead of at the crown where itā€™ll hurt your corms. šŸ‘ then when you repot later, just throw the bottom layer away.

    I switched to moss in my mix, I love it! Stays moist longer but I'm ok with that. Winter time I want them happy with low care needs so I can go ski etc but I keep my place warm and supplement with some grow lights even
