Hey guys! So I purchased 2 Milo’s at Walmart tonight… they look good I didn’t see any signs of pests or diseases… got them home and something told me to check one of the new leaves that one was pushing out that hadnt totally unfurled. (One in middle of this pic) Of course I ripped it a bit opening it but I’m glad I did… the green gods must’ve been on my side telling me to check it, cause there were a lot of tiny clear bugs. They weren’t moving at all but I wiped them all off, rinsed that leaf with water, and sprayed it with neem oil. They’re both upstairs separate from my other plants. What do you think those were, baby spider mites? They looked like mealy bugs honestly but those have always been white in my experience. I’m gonna let them acclimate for about a week and then I’ll repot by throwing out the soil, rinsing everything with water, and then placing in cups of water for another few weeks before putting in a self watering pots with pon. Would you guys do anything differently? I did also get an anthurium flamingo lily that’s the most healthy I’ve EVER seen… but once home I noticed a tiny spider web on top of soil… nothing in the web though. I placed it upstairs too… I’ll most likely change its soil but I didn’t want to put it in water or pon because mine haven’t done well in either so far so I was going to put it in aroid soil. Do you think it could’ve just been a coincidence? Because seriously it looks so healthy. So confusing.

Might have been thirps, thirps in their pupae stage are slightly yellow and clear, I’d suggest using your phone light to look for adults

What should I do if I see something? And if I don’t? Does my plan sound ok?

If you don’t see any damage or pests then still quarantine it for a week or so, just to monitor it as pests may not be visible yet. If you see pests and damage, quarantine it, and begin treatment. Treatment can be quite easy, especially if there are little to no pests, every watering check your plant and wipe them down with a cloth, this way you’ll be actively removing them without having to use chemicals and such, however that is a perfectly fine option if you wish to use them.

Ok I did wipe all the leaves with a wet paper towel and then sprayed with a neem oil spray… so hopefully it will be ok. They wouldn’t be able to travel downstairs to my other plants would they? Do you think they could’ve spread just while I had them on my kitchen counter to wipe leaves? I’m so paranoid now

I wouldn’t be too worried, only thirps can fly out of the four main pests and you said they are around the same size as mealy bugs which are a bit bigger so I don’t think they are thirps. Did they look like this?

Depending on size, it could be aphids

Honestly it could be… looking at pics I can’t tell a difference in what I seen in comparison to the photos of both on Google. They were about the size of mealy bugs, and I will say the backs kinda looked like that… but were clear instead of white

Beautiful plan I really hope that you get rid of those pests. I had a small white bug infestation on my elephant ear plant too and it really stunk and the people in here are very helpful
