Hello Alocasia experts! This plant was given to me as a gift yesterday and I have never owned this type of plant before. It’s a variegated green velvet alocasia. 1) What are some tips for this plant that will help it thrive? What are some things I should expect? 2) I have a monstera that I want to repot soon and I was wondering if chunky soil will be good for this plant? How do 3) does this plant drop leaves in the winter? Does it go dormant? How many leaves does it produce at a time? 4) I am currently placing it behind a sheer curtain to protect it from morning light. I have an east facing window and get tons of direct morning light and bright indirect light. Can I acclimate this plant to direct morning light?

    expect "ghost" or completely white leaves, and expect them to die very quickly. white leaves cannot sustain themselves and will typically only last a week or two. chunky soil is good for alocasia, but make sure it's also moisture retaining as well as arid. it can absolutely be acclimated over the course of a few weeks, variegated plants LOVE high light!

    Mine is very aggressive, the leaves reach for light, and often before she will push a new leaf the others might get a little droopy so don't panic if she is a bit expressive. They are vulnerable too mites so have a neem mixture on hand
