I just received this beautiful lady from a friend as a Christmas gift. How do I take care of her? My one and only experience with an alocacia didn’t go well.

  1. Botanical Hack

I decided to place the humidifier under the plants that need it and cut a hole in the plastic shelf liner above it, pushing the vapor up into the plants. That way I don’t drench the light with water.

I thought I should report back on a recent change to the above. I bought and installed a clear plastic cover for one of my wire rack carts (for plants that need higher humidity). Additionally, I have placed trays of rocks and water onto the shelves to see if it would raise the humidity level. It turns out the trays are working wonderfully. I also bought a controller and then a small fan that I connected to the controller. I set the controller to 55% and a dehumidification differential of 5%. That means the controller starts my fan up at 60% and then shuts it off at 55%. There’s a second outlet on the controller for humidification that I can plug a humidifier into and it would start up a humidifier when the humidity gets too low. But I don’t need to do that, because when the fan stops, the humidity starts rising almost immediately from just the trays of water. Now the humidity is always within range without having to do anything except keep water in the trays. Is that cool or what? 😜
