Looks like Polly isnāt happy š. I repotted my Polly about a month ago and it lost 3 small leaves and these are left. It looks like one is drooping and the stem looks pruny? Iām worried because I increased the pot size itās retaining too much liquid? I read that pon soil is best for alocasia but wondering if I should attempt to repot given itās only been a month?
The worst thing you can do is leave your plant in a state where itās overwatered. If that means repot 10 times thatās better than leaving it where it develops root rot. Rot is worse than any shock. PON is a big change but I made the switch and absolutely love it. When all your plants are PON you only need to fill the water reservoir once every two weeks or so. Iāve only killed one type of plant after completely washing their roots clean and switching to PON and that is a croton mammi, but Iāve consistently killed mammis this way and itās not a recommended soil type for them (Iām stubborn) Go slow with removing the soil if you do, wash as much under running water onceās itās almost all gone to ensure you donāt have any material that will later rot your roots in the PON. When you wash your roots pull off any grey or black roots, they will only hurt your progress further. Best of luck! Reply if you have questions, happy to help!
4 gillningar Omg thanks for the suggestion! Based on the symptoms (the pruning of the stems and the drooping) do you suspect the water is the issue? I just bought a grow light to see if thatāll work
0 gillningar Itās really hard to tell from a picture if thereās water issues but if you feel like itās taking a really long time to dry out and thatās when issues started I would trust your hunch. I have the same plant and most those leaves just look like theyāre reaching in the direction the light is coming from, the one drooping could be an issue or could be natural. Until an alocasia is established it usually will only keep its 3 newest leaves and shed its older ones. On top of this, alocasia can go into a dormancy period where they look like theyāre dying but arenāt. You need to be careful to water even less during this time. The plant looks healthy for the most part though, maybe put it closer to a window, the more sun the faster it will use the water in the soil.
