Hi all…need some help with my Rio. He’s growing really long and I want to cut him and propagate to make a fuller plant. The stem closest to the pot is a lot thinner than the new growth. Am I better to plant my nodes/cuttings in water first or plunk it right back into the soil of the same pot? Would love some advice…I don’t want to kill him…he’s my favourite…I love the leaves! šŸƒ

You usually want 1-2 nodes per prop with at least 2-3 leaves (can be done with less, but if you’re newer to props this would be my suggestion). I always do water first because I like to monitor my root growth. If I find it starting to struggle then I’ll switch to a different medium. But I’ve had minimal issues with water. As for the main plant, based on how it looks, it should be fine to cut it off :)

Stick it in water and get a decent size root structure before repotting to give the cuttings the best chance

I’m growing some props in water. They are growing very well with just one node and one leaf per cutting. I add SuperThrive to the water.
