hey! my philodendron micans has stayed a little moist since i watered it 9 days ago. i keep it maybe about 4 feet from my south facing window, this is what the roots look like. does this look like root rot or is it their normal color? it’s been very stormy where i live recently so there hasn’t been as much light as usual. it has a smell but i can’t rly tell if it’s like a bad smell or just what moist dirt / plant smells like. new to all of this and traumatized by my pothos dying of root rot, idk if i’m just being paranoid haha.

    If you really are worried I highly suggest checking the roots and if they’re smushy then cut them as high as you can, let the roots soak in some hydrogen peroxide and water for a little bit, lay them and let them dry out a little bit on a towel or paper towel and repot with new soil

    They look good to me. But the soil is not ideal for a philodendron. It looks like classic potting mix whereas you want a chunkier medium so that the roots are not staying wet for too long

    it's normal for soil to take longer to dry if there's less sun. consider moving it closer to the window if the problem persists

    Root rot is black & mushy. These roots are healthy. But that dirt doesn’t look chunky enough for sure. Put it in an aroid mix instead so the dirt doesn’t hold so much moisture for so long. It’ll also give the roots breathing room.
