I am trying to save my philodendron Brazil from dying. During the winter I moved and the plant got damaged and stressed. Then we don’t keep our house warm enough for it and I couldn’t find a sunny window for it, I think was the last straw. So I read that to propagate this plant you just need at least two leaves and a node joint. Well, mine did have all of the but but when I put them in want for a couple of days, the leaves start to die, no roots grow, and something starts growing on the cut ends and the joints. It put them in plain tap water. Can anyone please help? I’m afraid I have lost my plant completely. Before cutting up and getting rid of all the bad spots before repotting I tried to turn the stem back down into the soil to grow roots but it didn’t do it there either.

The leafs can die before any roots grow happens to me and roots can take up to a month to start growing

Do you know anything about that white fuzzy stuff growing on all the joints? Should I take them out and clean them off?

Dump the water out and fill it up. And the fuzzy stuff in the water is just part of the plant propagation process that I have experienced

Ok. Thanks. I’ll keep a watchful eye in hopes that these poor little guys make it. I sure would like to keep it. I’m already having issues with my monstera plant🄺 after separating and repotting it for the first time from a big box store. My husband bought this one for me from a grocery store because I didn’t have a hanging plant yetā˜ŗļø. Thank you again.

I’m not saying don’t buy any because I have gotten plants from Trader Joe’s but be extra careful when you buy plants from anywhere they can come with pests and problems

You could also try wet stick propagation. There are quite a few YouTube videos available on the subject. Something similar happened with my heart leaf philodendron that I had for 7 years a couple of months ago. I was able to water prop some, but also had success with the wet stick props.

Thanks. I will definitely look into that. Anything to help me to keep this poor plant alive. šŸ¤žšŸ»

After watching a couple of YouTube videos on wet stick propagation it looks like this might be the thing for me to do. If you look I have extra stem in the glass to get more roots since it has no leaves on it. I need to go get some sphagnum moss and find a spot to put the box to get this started right away. I think this would be the best solution. Thank you very much for the suggestion Danielle.

I used regular soil and glass Tupperware and just stuck it under a grow light and it worked great, but I know the moss is great for retaining moisture. Also just make sure you open up the container every couple of days to lets some fresh air in. Good luck!!
