Hi! I was given this philodendron brasil yesterday. I’m pretty new to plants in general and this is my first philodendron - any tips on how to get it to thrive? Tips/personal experience regarding soil, light, etc., welcome!

    My philodendron loves a chunky soil mix, I use 2 parts potting mix, 1 part perlite, 1 part coco choir, 1 part orchid bark, and 1/2 part activated charcoal. I also recommend a moss pole, the ones from Etsy are really cut but also extensive so I would get one from Amazon. Make sure you’re not getting a coco choir pole because they aren’t as good as moss. This is from personal experience only but mine loves being outside in bright light. It took a while for it to be adjusted to the light but now it’s growing about 1 new leaf every few days. I’ve also added a picture of mine, it’s not long enough for a moss pole yet but I think yours is)

      I agree with this type of soil mix. The only thing I don’t do is charcoal (not for any particular reason). I fertilize at every watering at 1/2 strength. I do this with all my plants cause it’s just easier for me and everything lives under a grow light. You can have them trail or climb. They are beautiful either way.
