Hello-according to Planta this is my White Ice Princess Philo. It has been growing beautifully since I bought it. I have not changed anything in the way I care for this plant but lately I’ve noticed yellow leaves more often than I want to notice. As far as soil, it’s planted in Molly’s Aroid mix. I use a moisture meter to monitor the soil but I do not depend on that method alone. I’m thinking that this soil is draining much faster than I realize because it’s currently reading almost completely dry but it’s not showing up on my to do list. Will this cause the yellow leaves?

what is white “ice” princess? yellowing usually means over or under watering or they are older leaves ready to die

Honestly I’m not sure but that is what the tag said when I bought it. Is that wrong?

i was just wondering if “ice” meant something else but i think it’s just a regular old white princess. which is neither regular or old! beautiful plant m’lady🫶!

I don’t bottom water every time. Do you think that is better?

I wouldn’t rely on Planta. While some moisture meters can give bad readings, I would rely on that before relying on Plantas schedule. I use a very chunky mix for all my aroids and I usually have to water before Planta puts it on my list.

Ok. Do you think I’ve under watered then? I forgot to mention also that it’s not potted in a very deep pot but not an extremely shallow pot either. I hope i haven’t killed it. I have even thought about digging it up just to make sure everything looks ok below the soil. I have another Philo that I am having the same issue with. Thank you for your advice also!

I’m am not as knowledgeable as a lot of people here. I only have two philodendrons, so I would probably want a second opinion, but I hear that following any apps schedule isn’t fantastic for the plants. They just don’t know all the factors in play. I believe yellow is typically a sign of overwatering but I couldn’t be sure. If your moisture meter is working correctly and it is drying out all the way, then it doesn’t sound like overwatering. I would certainly keep an eye on the moisture and water when the top 25 - 50% is dry. Typically under-watering is better than overwatering. I would do a check for pests and make sure all the recommended conditions are met. I believe most like bright, indirect light and a decent amount of humidity. You might double check for your type specifically.
