I got so lucky today and the kind dude at my local nursery gave me a cutting of this Philodendron ā€˜Pink Princessā€™ after he heard me gushing over it and comparing prices. Iā€™m completely new to propagating and my other water propagations have rotted so Iā€™m trying straight into soil. Is this ok or should I really be trying to get roots from putting it in water? It had two little arial roots attached before I put it into dirt. Iā€™m about to go away for a week and didnā€™t anticipate finding this or getting a cutting, is there anything I should tell my roommate to be aware of? I have it on my patio, close to the back wall where thereā€™s no direct sunlight but the handrail still gets some rays so itā€™s bright imo. I have it in a mix of soil and perlite. She has some slight crisping in Any advice is extremely appreciated!

    Lucky you! šŸ˜Š This should work as long as it stays moist. Not wet. Itā€™s a hard call. Mine also is propped into a soil mix. But I just keep the soil moist. Sheā€™s doing really well. Water prop works also - I have done both ways. Do you have any rooting hormone? This would also help it.

      Good idea, I can grab some rooting hormone when Iā€™m back from my trip but would it still matter a week after itā€™s been cut?

      It may not matter by then. I use liquid that I put into my water on my starters so you could use a liquid hormone after a week to build strong roots.

      I swear by this stuff for water props!! Or after repotting as well!! I think itā€™s like $14 but if you buy two itā€™s about $18 on Amazon.

    To prevent rot with water prop, change the water daily! People call it extra but ever since I started doing that, I have not lost one. Good luck with the soil prop! Remember you can always return her to water if she does fail. But that's not gonna happen <3

      True change water often enough if not all at least halfā€¦ usually I do half water change unless container/vessel starts turning green.
