Hi guys! I rescued this white princess philodendron from Walmart almost 2 months ago and am still having trouble with browning spots. This was my first plant requiring more attention (I only had pothos and pepperomias prior lol) She lives near a humidifier and doesn’t have direct sunlight to scorch her leaves - I’ve been consistent with watering when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. And I’m building her a moss pole this weekend I swear. Any help with the brown spots would be so greatly appreciated!!!

    Sometimes variegated spots are just a lot more sensitive and fragile because they lack chlorophyll. The plant may sacrifice these white parts when they need a bit more energy. Personally, my white wizard philodendron’s leave brown if I don’t heavily bottom water at least once a week (every 3-4 days if it’s dry) :)

      Thank you! I haven’t watered it as much as I anticipated I would need to but maybe it’s because I don’t bottom water! (I know I know I’m terrible) but I’ll try that and hopefully it’ll thrive :))

    The white sections are more vulnerable but that doesn’t mean they have to be hard. I don’t have this problem. I think the primary thing to look at is the soil. Make sure it is chunky and fast draining as well as some good organic stuff like worm castings. Mine wants to be almost completely dry before watering and of course watch how close she is to the light. Judging by the pics it might be too little light as well. Godspeed!! 💚💚

      I make my own soil from coco coir, perlite, worm castings, orchid bark, chopped sphagnum moss and some We the Wild stuff for the roots. I have recently also started adding some fluval stratum to enrich the soil. Everything is 1:1 except the worm castings, moss and root protection. Those are all in smaller doses. All that said you can purchase some really good premade soil these days. I would go with a good nursery’s soil like Gabriella’s rather than trusting some random amazon brand. Hope that helps!     White parts can naturally die off due to lack of chlorophyll (the green on leaves). Try adding silica to every watering. It’s impossible to reverse the damage but u can prevent it from furthering this way. Also, sometimes if you let it dry out too much or overwater this can also happen to the whites.
