Watering cuttings in LECA or Pon
When rooting cuttings in semi-hydro mediums like LECA or Pon, the key is maintaining a gentle water level that encourages root growth without submerging the plant. These mediums wick moisture, so the setup does the watering for you, with a bit of monitoring.

Care instructions
Start with clean, pre-soaked medium.
Always rinse LECA or Pon thoroughly to remove dust and impurities. Then soak it for several hours to saturate the material so it can begin wicking moisture to the cutting right away.Set the water level correctly.
Cuttings should not sit in standing water. Fill the container so that the bottom of the LECA or Pon touches the water, but the cutting’s base is just above it. This creates a humid, oxygen-rich zone perfect for root development.Maintain consistent moisture.
These mediums wick moisture upwards. As long as there’s a small water reservoir at the bottom, the cutting will stay hydrated. Check every few days to top off the water and make sure the level hasn’t dropped too low.Avoid full submersion.
Never let the base of the cutting or the node be fully underwater. This increases the risk of rot. If roots are forming, it’s fine for just the very tips to be close to or touching the water.Use a clear cup or cover for humidity.
Early-stage cuttings benefit from high humidity. Use a clear dome, plastic bag, or even a loose lid to trap moisture. Open it daily to let in fresh air.Monitor for rooting and algae.
You may see roots forming along the base of the cutting in 2–4 weeks. Clean the container if algae builds up, and rinse the LECA or Pon if needed during water changes.
Watch out for
Submerging the cutting base: leads to rot
Letting the water dry out: cuts off moisture supply
Algae growth: caused by light + stagnant water, clean if needed
