Propagating in water
Water is one of the easiest and most beginner-friendly ways to propagate a plant. It’s clean, low-effort, and lets you watch roots grow in real time.

How it works
Make sure it's placed in a container with water. Only the bottom part of the cutting or seed should be in contact with the water.
Over time, it begins to grow roots.
Once the roots are long and strong enough, the new plant can be moved to soil or another growing medium.
What you’ll need
A clean container, like a glass, vase or jar.
Room-temperature water.
Tips for success
Change the water about once a week to keep any bacterial growth down, and keep the water oxygenated. Planta will remind you to change the water.
Use a wide container to maximize the surface to volume ratio and oxygenation. Tall, narrow vessels are less effective and more likely to cause problems.
If the water clouds before the scheduled app reminder, change it early. This can be necessary during the initial stages.
When rooting a stem cutting, remove any lower leaves so that only the bare stem sits in the water. Submerged leaves can rot and foul the water.
Maintain a stable temperature while roots form.
