Harvesting Pears
Pears are usually harvested before they are fully soft and allowed to ripen off the tree. Picking at the right stage improves flavor, texture, and storage quality.

Care instructions
Harvest before fully soft.
Unlike many fruits, pears ripen best after being picked. Harvest when the fruit has reached full size and the color begins to lighten, but while still firm.Use the lift-and-twist test.
Hold the pear gently, lift it upward, and twist slightly. A mature pear should detach easily from the branch.Don’t wait for softness on the tree.
If left too long, pears can become mealy or rot from the inside before softening properly.Harvest during dry conditions.
Pick pears on a dry day if possible to improve storage life.Handle carefully.
Pears bruise easily. Place them gently into a container rather than dropping or stacking heavily.Ripen indoors.
Allow harvested pears to ripen at room temperature. They are ready to eat when the flesh near the stem yields slightly to gentle pressure.Store properly after harvesting.
Store unripe pears in a cool place or refrigerator to slow ripening. Once ripe, keep in the refrigerator and use within a few days.
