Harvesting Cabbage
Cabbage is best harvested when the head feels firm and solid. Picking at the right time ensures crisp leaves and good flavor while preventing splitting or bolting.

Care instructions
Harvest when heads are firm.
Cabbage is ready to harvest when the head is fully formed and feels dense and solid when gently squeezed. Loose heads are not yet mature.Don’t wait too long.
Overmature cabbage heads can split, especially after heavy rain. Check regularly once heads begin to firm up.Harvest during cooler hours.
Pick cabbage in the early morning for the best crisp texture and flavor.Cut the head cleanly.
Use a sharp knife to cut the stem at the base of the head. Leave the outer leaves attached to protect it during handling.Consider a second harvest.
If you leave the outer leaves and roots in place, some varieties may produce smaller secondary heads from side shoots.Handle carefully.
Although sturdy, cabbage can bruise if dropped. Place harvested heads gently in a container.Store properly after harvesting.
Store cabbage in the refrigerator. It keeps well for several weeks when stored whole and unwashed.
