We planted new strawberry plants two weeks ago and after one week the already developed berries had turned red and looked ripe. Then after the next week we noticed the outside of the leaves were browning and the strawberry buds were turning black. Now we have two that have just completely turned brown (stem and all)! It’s really watery in the photo, but it’s not usually like this, it’s raining today so that’s why it’s so wet. Any help is appreciated, I’m really looking forward to some hopefully strawberries this spring!

    Mostly likely fungus, possibly Tarnished plant bug or another pest, last resort is soggy soil nutrient deficiency.

      Of course! In my personal opinion they look like they’re going thru the first option, too wet and soggy and have grown fungus. Make sure you trim all affected areas and do not compost (the mold will spread!) Maybe try mulching with straw (be SURE it’s straw and not something else) or pine needles, and maybe if possible transplant to a raised garden bed to improve conditions if you think the plants could handle a transition. It might be worth identifying the fungus and treating with fungicide or I personally use a varying solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water ( be careful and make sure the mixture is appropriate for the plants and you are applying it properly (google can help you with the recipe and application) good luck! 🍀
