I’ve recently made some banana fertiliser, I done this by putting cut up banana skins in a pot of hot water and allowing it to sit. I know the longer the better:) I was wondering if anyone could tell me, if I take old dry potting soil/soil and I adequately water it add egg shells and food scraps as well as a used teabag will I revive/rejuvenate it and add add nutrients back into the soil?? Will I be able to grow my plants in it? Any and all help would be appreciated

That sounds like … a lot! Food scraps aren’t necessary unless you’re looking to compost. And you’ll want to make sure have carbon pieces and maybe some worms to help. Banana tea is fine but make sure you Ph it before adding to the soil. Ph is very important because the plant won’t take in any nutrients if the Ph is off. Also bake the eggs shells before putting in

Thank you how would I ph it? Could I add the food scraps to the soil and let it absorb the nutrients?

The scraps will have to be broken down by the flora and fauna in the soil before any nutrients will become available to the plant. That’s where composting comes in. If space is limited, look into vermicomposting. It can be done in a relatively small space and the worm castings are a great additive to potting media and soil.

You can buy Ph UP and DOWN. They usually come with strip tests to gauge what the Ph is. If you just toss food scraps in there’s a good chance they just rot. You need to create an environment that will break down the food.

white vinegar (acid) and baking soda (alkaline) can be used in place of ph up/down in some instances, like if you’re adding a little bit to water. i like to add a few drops of white vinegar to my watering can to imitate rainwater’s natural acidity

you will definitely need to compost the food scraps first. vermicomposting is a great option especially for small spaces since everything happens in a 5-gallon bucket
