So, I bought a few plant roots and temporarily put them in plastic tubs as planters until I can get my actual raised beds together. I dropped the elderberry root when I was unpacking it and the top part broke off with the only leaves it had, will that one sprout again later since the roots were fine? Also, the guy at the store was kinda mean to me so I don't want to go back to buy another to try again. So hopefully someone here can answer and hopefully the prospects are good. šŸ¤ž

    I would research thatā€™s what I would do if I was in your position thatā€™s what Iā€™ve been doing I go to YouTube all the time and Google and it has been working for me thus far. Just research on how to get it back. I usually watch videos if your leaf is coming back thatā€™s a good sign for one and maybe if itā€™s infant, then it may not be able to handle being outside so maybe you need to keep it inside for a while. If itā€™s a little bit more mature, I would watch videos for that and they will teach you how to get more. I hope this helps you. Iā€™m a beginning myself and I have made some mistakes I had to replant, but Iā€™ve learned a little bit I havenā€™t done elderberry and that is a good one. I would like to try.

      Everything I found was just like tips how to mend a broken branch or stem, which I did try the tips I found but without success. I do have another elderberry that seems to be doing fine I just really wanted 2 for different areas of the yard. I want to try my hand at companion planting so I can see if it really works or not.

      You know what I realize that I have been doing that and not know it šŸ˜† because people I believe should understand that plants are living things so they want to be around other living things so itā€™s really true that I put like my cucumbers with my okra and they are encouraging each other to grow and I have like my collard greens with my cabbages and theyā€™re growing together they communicate in some kind of way because theyā€™re the living creatures They just donā€™t speak how we speak. So itā€™s probably lonely. It probably needs some encouragement from other berries so if you have like a mulberry plant or a plant thatā€™s similar to it. I think that just might help it heal cause itā€™s probably looking for encouragement. Is the plant from seed meaning infant or is it older or mature? And do you have an inside or outside?

      I've got the broken elderberry plant in a large plastic tub outside for now with a blueberry. The future bushes are just pretty much a stick with some leaves right now (except the broken one). I'll take pics later it's raining now.

      Sorry, I'm not great with terminology. I had to look up the word. These bush roots are propagation. They came in a little canvas sack with a little tiny bit of dirt and like one or two leaves. This is the broken one.

    Photos? It would help to see whatā€™s remaining of the plant/rooted cutting. Iā€™m confused about what the plant roots look like. I do have an elderberry plant I gave up for dead that keeps reviving in spring. Itā€™s potted and lives outside. Iā€™m in zone 9 and should have never bought an elderberry for this location. Itā€™s too hot. But, the plant looks dead by end of summer and resurrects in spring with other plants trying to occupy the pot. šŸŖ“šŸ€

      I'll take pictures later, it's raining at my house currently. I'm in an 8 zone. I don't want to dig it up but I can show you the current setup. It's temporary, though. They are outside.

      This is the broken one I tried to repair following tips I found online but it looks dead. The stem didn't break completely off it was broken halfway. Like imagine a hangnail and then apply it to a thick plant stem, if that makes any sense. Anyway I splinted the broken part and buried it in the hopes it would heal but it doesn't look good.

    The elderberry can still recover. It could put out a new shoot like mine. I would add root stimulator, diluted fertilizer and some SuperThrive plant vitamins when watering. I would consider getting it shade from the most intense noon heat until the root system gets established and stronger. Iā€™m not familiar with the other plants. šŸŖ“šŸ€
