Trying to grow peppers for the first time. Got this little ghost pepper plant. I assume I will need to move it to a bigger container, thinking about just doing it now while it’s small. Anyway, also going to try to keep it alive inside over the winters here in Minnesota. Summers are great here for peppers, hot and humid, winters not so much. Looks like pepper care is similar to tomatoes and I know a lot of people grow those around here.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable can weigh in, but I was advised not to move mine from a 3” cup to the next size up when mine was that small as the worry was that it would get root rot with all the excess soil around. I waited until I saw roots poking through the bottom of the cup to repot and they seemed to be doing just fine even though they were about 8-10” tall at that point. Now they’re happily living in 6” for now and starting to get buds!

Wait for the plant to develop a bigger root ball before repotting into a bigger pot. By repotting it now in a bigger pot while it’s small the roots will stay too wet because there aren’t enough to use all the water in the soil. Staying wet like this for a long time doesn’t allow the roots to breath leading to root rot and the death of your plant. Repotting into bigger pots is a step by step process. Skipping steps usually isn’t a faster way to the end result.
