ClaudetteCan you get the leaves up so they aren’t touching the soil? Maybe using a mulch like straw or chopped up leaves. This spotting and wilting can occur when water hits the soil and splashes the leaves. I would just remove the wilted leaves and then make sure you’re watering from below with a very gentle flow. Are you growing it as a cut and come again or as a head lettuce?

You can also plant your lettuce more closely together so that the soil doesn’t dry out as quickly. Ignore the spacing guidance on your seed packets, those are for farmers, not home gardeners. Add some herbs, as well as some fruiting plants, and pack in that bed. Depending on where you live, you might actually still be able to plant some winter greens, arugula can still be planted from seed and it’s a fast grower, and will help fill in some gaps. You can still plant carrots, and brassicas like cabbages, kale, and many Asian greens.

Oh wow! Thanks for freeing me from the spacing rules 😅. It’s so intense. I have a more seeds that can go in that bed.

KayleneI have the same lettuce and it gets like that on the bottom too. I just remove them. I think it’s from Them sitting on the soil, especially if it’s too wet.

I’m new at this too. Just try not to water too much because the roots will rot and just cut them off to keep away from the soil.

You can put cardboard (like cereal box) around the plant to keep the leaves off the soil
