Could I get away with this spacing? These are potato plants and I believe there’re 10 in the pot… Split into two layers. 5 per layer. None of my other pots are close to the size of this one, so if I wanted to space them out, I think I’d have to buy another pot. EDIT: Also, there’s the droopyness. It did rain over the weekend so I’m inclined to think it’s slightly overwatered, maybe?
while they are this size, yes, but if you want big potatoes you need a bigger pot. these plants will choke eachother's roots and the potatoes will only get so big. in a pot this size i'd only put four or so of them in there if i want good size potatoes
좋아요 1개 Thank for the response! I’m honestly fine with small potatoes. Just concerned on whether or not the plants will die or disease/mold/ickyness will occur… This is my first time growing real food like this 😅
좋아요 1개 the only true concern would be pests, if you're growing outside. close proximity can encourage mold, but if you keep a fan on or if there's a nice breeze where you live, you should be fine. honestly, towards the end, the plant above the soil will probably die. this does not compromise the potatoes underground, they will still be edible if the green bits die. potatoes are perennials in most places, so don't expect them to survive until the next season. leaving a couple potatoes in the soil will give you more plants next year, but this can lead to disease buildup, so i don't recommend re-using the potatoes you harvest.
