I bought this lemon tree in November and leaves started dropping… | Edible Gardening | Planta-fællesskab

I bought this lemon tree in November and leaves started dropping almost immediately. I made sure to water it correctly, but we didn’t mist it at all. Is it dead? Can I save it? It now lost all of the leaves :( Thank you!

It’s healthy and doing what plants do in November which is to shed leaves and go dormant. If you keep up with a regular watering schedule and only when the soil is dry you water it, then by spring the plant should start to shoot new leaves 🍃

Citrus trees are actually evergreens, not deciduous trees, but don’t panic! Ten years ago, when I got my lemon tree I had a pretty severe under-watering issue and it lost every single leaf, too. There’s a lot of energy stored in that root system as long as there’s no root rot. I improved my watering technique and after it did a little self-pruning, it put out a whole new set of leaves, and I’ve had the pleasure of its company and its lemons all these years up in the cold frozen north- Good luck! 💕🍋💕

Thank you! I hope leaves will grow back. I didn’t mist it at all. Could this have caused an issue?

My fingers are crossed for you and your lemon! I remember how grateful I was to see my first new leaf bud swell… I wouldn’t think a lack of misting would be a problem because I have never misted mine when it’s inside for the winter. I do run a humidifier 2 rooms away for the general household because the furnace takes so much moisture out of the air but it’s still far from humid in my house. The only real humidity my tree gets is outside in the full heat and humidity of summer. I think the key is finding the watering routine that works best for your tree. Good luck!🤞

Mine hasn’t lost all its leaves but my lemon tree dropped probably 30% in the past month. I hope it’s just conserving energy bc of less sunlight.

How is it doing? I’m growing my first lemon too. Does yours look better?

It’s actually doing fantastic! Not only is it sending out sprouts of leaves all over the place, it has about 10 blossoms on it!
