NEW! I’ll be writing about some herbs the following weeks 😃🪴 first out: Mentha spicata (Spearmint) Description: Spearmint is a perennial herb known for its rapid growth, serrated green leaves, and slender spikes of pink or lavender flowers. It typically reaches heights of up to 2 feet/60 cm. Its leaves emit a refreshing scent when crushed. Taste: Spearmint offers a mild, sweet flavor with a subtle cooling sensation, making it a popular choice for culinary purposes. History: Spearmint has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. It is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean region and has been cultivated and used for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks and Romans highly valued spearmint for its culinary and medicinal properties. It was commonly used to flavor sauces, beverages, and desserts, and also served as a remedy for various ailments, including digestive issues. Throughout history, spearmint has been utilized in various cultures for its soothing properties. It has been used to make herbal teas, often consumed to alleviate nausea, indigestion, and headaches. Scientific Finds: Scientifically, spearmint has been found to contain compounds like menthol, which contributes to its refreshing taste and aroma. Menthol has been researched for its potential analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties. Spearmint also contains antioxidants, which may help protect cells from oxidative damage. Care: - Sunlight: Thrives in 6h hours of sunlight daily. - Soil: Plant in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. - Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. - Pruning: If you regularly trim it you'll encourage bushier growth. - Want Mint all over the place? Grow it directly in the ground, otherwise grow it in a container to keep it from taking over. Uses: Spearmint enhances salads, beverages, and desserts. It's perfect for mojitos, teas, and as a natural insect repellent in gardens. What are you using it for? 😃🌿

I love this idea. Thank you for committing time to educating us! I’ve grown spearmint for years. My favorite is adding copious amounts of leaves to my iced tea. It subtly flavors the tea and is very refreshing. And you are definitely right about it taking over. When I was a kid my father consistently mowed down a stand of spearmint, claiming it was a weed. The spearmint pulled a Steve Austin and came back better, stronger, bigger than before. It was a loosing battle. 😁

Yay! I’m looking forward for it as well 😃 I’ve actually never tried it in ice tea, just the hot version! Need to try that asap 😃 hahaha! And better, stronger and bigger might be the only description needed for it 😅
