pinch off the “suckers” aka the baby plants that start coming out of the place when the leaf meets the stem when it gets older, or else you will only have small fruit. you can put these suckers in soil and water well and they will root and become new tomato plants. pinch off early flowers until your vine is at least 10 inches tall for cherry tomatoes, and 1 foot for bigger tomatoes. you will get tomatoes all season long this way! make sure you give them supports especially when they flower, or else the fruit might break the stem. fertilise well with tomato/vegetable/herb fertiliser (google when you should do this based on your tomato variety) and continue a regular schedule for big juicy tomatoes! harvest when they are half ripe, and ripen inside in a well ventilated room temperature area, away from direct sun: they last longer this way, and taste exactly the same as vine ripened (vine ripened is a lie). best of all, this encourages the plant to keep flowering instead of putting energy into ripening the tomatoes. keep them well watered, and give them plenty of sunlight. make sure you water at the soil level, as tomatoes are prone to fungal infections and wet leaves encourage fungus growth (you don’t want that). happy tomato planting!
