Hi! I’m new here and new to growing food. I’m wondering if I can combine some different edible plants in the same pot for the next year or so (when I plan on moving). I want to grow more of my own food but in terms of sunnier locations I just have an apartment walkway garden with very limited space. Yesterday, I repotted a fig (brown turkey), semi-dwarf eureka lemon, and dwarf black mulberry tree up from 5 gallon pots into these giant pots that are 14.5 inches across and 16 inches deep. I’m wondering if I can plant some other veggies, herbs, or edible flowers around the base of these trees to make use of the extra space without encroaching upon the growth of the tree roots. I’m planning on moving to somewhere with more outdoor space after a year and could remove and repot the other plants then. Regarding potential candidates: I’ve been sprouting heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, fennel, lettuce, Armenian cucumbers, spearmint, basil, oregano, sage, violets, calendulas, bee balm, lavender, chamomile, honeysuckle, and baby mulberry trees. I also have a strawberry plant. Would any of these work as potential pot-mates? I’m very open to other co-growing suggestions, especially vegetables.
