Hi! Relatively new here and figured I’d ping the group :: does anyone have a recommendation for a fertilizer that’s going to be doing double duty for vegetables (think cukes, tomatoes, zucchini) and a mix of cut flowers?

    To make it simple, there is no single miracle fertilizer. You will need additives depending on the plants, and even soil Ph. Tomatoes need higher phosphorus and half the nitrogen/potassium or you will get lots of green leaves and few tomatoes. I bought tomato fertilizer. But, I used more organic methods on everything else as taught by my ‘elders’ who own farms like my uncle and my husband’s grandmother who swore by her composts! 😄 She raised 9 children on home grown vegetables. Cow and chicken manure were standard at the start of every season and to winterize at the end of the season. I currently use cow manure as a top dressing on large potted plants outside each spring. I find that it runs black and stains concrete. This never happened back in the day. I suspect they add black dyes. It’s not permanent. The stain clears by the end of summer. But, the compost works. I add bone meal when the garden plants needed more nitrogen. (I check the Ph in the garden soil each year. Then, add amendments based on the make up of the soil. )
