Hi everyone, Does anyone know what type of pepper plant this is? I was gifted this beautiful plant and I was told is a very hot pepper but I’ve never seen one. I used the planta app to identify it and it says it’s a sweet pepper plant & I don’t think this is correct. Thank you & happy gardening!
It’s chili pequin (aka tepin/petin), bird pepper. Birds eat it and spread the seeds. It’s a perennial that can survive winters or reseed. It’s hotter than jalapeño peppers. It’s smaller than the sweet cherry peppers sold in Italian markets. Yours looks like the peppers got a bit dry. They are still edible and good for pickling!😄🌶️

1 gilla You’re welcome! I really want one. They grow wild in Texas just not in my area. I love hot peppers because they are so flavorful. My stomach lining says no! 😂
1 gilla Gradually get it into 8 hours of direct sunlight. They need full sunlight.
