This year someone left on my front stoop a small dehydrated cup of a pepper plant . I believe the plant came from Lowe’s but I cannot say for a fact. I’m not even sure who left it on my stoop, but I planted it thinking that it was gonna be a green pepper plant. Well, it’s not it’s a longhorn pepper plant. Now I like a good jalapeño pepper shoved in the back where my molars are and eaten that way, cause they’re sweet, but typically I’m not a pepper plant person other than bell peppers. What am I supposed to do with these peppers?

    I have 2 spicy pepper plants, a chili and a purple Thai chili. They produce more peppers in a week than I’d want to eat in a month. We have a dehydrator and completely dry them out, then crush them in a pestle with the mortar to make crushed pepper flakes. It takes the most of the heat out and keeps that fresh home grown loving flavor, I season almost every dinner with some.

      Excellent! I hadn’t thought of the fact they are hydrated red peppers. And I tend to go through a lot of crushed red pepper in the fall and winter as I make baked ziti’s. Thank you.

      I second the dehydrating suggestion. We have also taken to grilling them so they get a lovely char. I pop those into the freezer and pull out whenever we need to punch up something.
