Hey guys! My strawberries are doing well after 3 weeks since planting the seeds.. just wondering if anyone knows when I should repot them into bigger pots? The small pots theyā€™re in now are biodegradable so I can just plant those straight into the new pots, Iā€™m just unsure on when? The instructions say to repot once the seeds have ā€œhardenedā€ but im not sure exactly what this means? Iā€™m keeping them as indoor strawbs as we donā€™t have a gardenšŸ«£ so will be placed in a hanger or windowsill pot. Thanks in advance:)

    If you are planning to take them out of the biodegradable containers eventually, you should do it now because the roots can grow through the bottom and sides, which makes it hard to separate the plants.

    I waited until my seedlings had their first set of true leaves to repot. I didnā€™t leave mine in the bio cups, but my mum told me to gently split the cups if/when I do to help the seedlings roots to grow through them easier.

      Yeah this is what the instructions say to do also so Iā€™ll definitely tear the pots a bit, Iā€™m just unsure on when I should do that? Itā€™s only been 3wks since I planted them but the instructions donā€™t give me a timescale of when to repot them ahah

      Iā€™d wait until they have their fist set of true leaves. (Like in the second or third image here) thatā€™s what all my seed packages for my tomatoes/chillies/eggplants recommended and theyā€™ve turned out good so far.

      Okay thank you!! Iā€™ve just bought a propagator to keep them in until I repot, how long would you say it usually takes for their first true leaves?

      Depends on the plant, but Took my tomatoes and chillies 3 weeks and my eggplants 4. My marigolds juuuuust started getting their first true leaves today and theyā€™re just over a week old. (And the true leaf is suuuuuper small still) Iā€™m going to wait probably another week or two to put the marigolds out (theyā€™re a companion plant to my tomatoes for our front raised bed)

    I think you should wait until they arenā€™t so fragile. I would probably wait until the leaves are maybe about ~1/2 inch wide before moving them into a different container. The plant needs to be strong enough to withstand being gently removed from the soil. Every variety of strawberry will be a little different, but I think this would apply to anything. Based on the photos, I would wait a few more weeks until they are more developed. I hope this helps šŸ˜Š

      I wonā€™t be removing them from the soil, just going to plant these biodegradable pots straight into bigger pots of soil so that the roots just grow through, saves me having to handle the fragile roots with my heavy handsšŸ˜‚ Iā€™ll definitely wait until theyā€™re developed a bit more, thank you!

      Moving to a bigger pot also means more soil to hold onto moisture which increases the risk of root rot.
