My ‘Dragon Eggs’, Tylecodon schaeferianus, have these tall stem looking things that fairly tall and I don’t know what they are or what function they have. I looked online and I asked some that is known to be quite knowledgeable about plants, with no answers. I’ve had it in an unobstructed South window sill in SouthWest Florida. Could someone please give me info on them? Also, I read they go dormant in summer. Is that what I am seeing? Plant tagged for additional photos. Thanks for any help!

I think it might be trying to flower. I found a few photos of what the flowers look like on this plant.

Thank you! That makes sense to me. The picture that I looked at it must’ve just been the angle or something, didn’t look like the flowers were coming from those stems which I found very odd. I really appreciate you finding that photo and letting me know. Do you think it’s going dormant? It looks less healthy than earlier this month and I’ve been on top of its care🤷‍♀️

It’s possible, but even some plants that can go dormant don’t if their environment doesn’t change like it naturally does where they’re usually grown. Has it even been repotted or fertilized? If it isn’t a matter of dormancy, it might just need some new nutrients to work with. The fact that it seems to be flowering suggests that it might’ve experienced a change in lighting or temperature to stimulate blooming, so it’s possible such a change could trigger a dormancy

In all honesty I don’t believe that it’s dormancy. I just wanted someone else’s thoughts about it.

Are these actually attached to the dragon eggs? It looks like a different plant in the same pot. Especially in the front, as they are coming up out of the soil itself

And if it is, that may be why the dragon egg isn't doing well, the other plant is taking over.

They are growing from the soil. The pictures I’ve seen were flowers from an egg, right? I’ve posted pic from 4/3/2025 and then 4/16/2025. 4/3. I do t see any of resale things and then 4/16, they are there🤷‍♀️. Nothing has changed with soil/light/watering, etc. sitting on my south window sill.

I think you should unpot it. I think its a secondary plant taking over. They don't look like dragon egg flowers, and they wouldn't be so abundant on such a small plant either

I thought it over and thought that too would be the best course of action. I’m glad that we both came up with the same. Thought that makes me feel much better about the decision. Thank you for all your help and your guidance, everyone!
