Why are their MUSHROOMS growing in my new succulent arrangement!?
Mushrooms are a sign of great soil. You can pick them out or leave them. It’s up to you. 🍄
2件のいいねOh awesome! I watered them when i first got them about a week ago, they are in a window so they get sun. I thought it could be due to to much moisture as well but this makes me feel better lol the plants that i got from this nursery are the only ones with mushrooms so it must have been their original soil.

No, this is terrible advice for succulents. Fungi need high moisture to grow which is the exact opposite of what succulents need.

Please please please don’t listen to that advice. Fungi will only grow if the soil is very moist. They are a sign that you are overwatering and your soil is retaining too much water. Your succulents will die if mushrooms continue to thrive in the soil.

Fungi won’t grow unless the soil is retaining moisture. In regular houseplants this may be fine but 100% not for succulents. You think succulents and cacti in the desert are living with fungi in their soil? Also, that article is literally talking about houseplants in general and is not specific for succulents. Ask any experienced succulent owner what they think about mushrooms growing in succulent pots and they will be aghast.

seems like the rocks on top of your planter are holding too much moisture in the soil. fungi may be a sign of healthy soil but they’re also only able to breed and multiply in moist conditions, which can be really detrimental to your succulent. i would recommend removing the top dressing so your soil can dry out appropriately, and only water when the media is completely dry. also make sure the mix you’re using is at least 40-50% grit (inorganic matter) like pumice and perlite

was it miracle gro cactus soil by any chance, the orange bag? their media claims to be well draining but is too moisture retentive for indoor succulents, it’s about 90% organic material (peat, compost, fine bark chips) and only about 10% sand and perlite. the peat in many commercial mixes also attracts fungus and fungus gnats. since succulents and cacti like to dry out quickly, their media should drain really fast— water shouldn’t sit on top but flow right through the air gaps in the media. airflow to the roots is really important for healthy succulents
