Is this larger pot suitable for my Thanksgiving Cactus? Its currently in a 6in pot, the soil is separating from the pot and roots are coming out of the drainage hole, so its time for a larger pot I think. However, I would like to move it to this 8in pot, but it just seems massive and very tall. Is this pot too tall? Should I look for something wider?
1 to 2 inches bigger than the current pot is your typical size jump however you won’t really know exactly what it needs until you see the full root ball if you pull it out and the soil doesn’t want to come loose from the roots. You could just pop it in and backfill around it the only time you really need to see the whole root ball is if you think there might be root rot, but you’ll be able to smell something funky if there’s root rot.
