I took your advice and laid out some pieces of my succulent on top of some sand, and put it in the windowsill to get some sun. It’s been a couple of weeks, and the second picture is what it looks like now. What happens next? TIA!

I'm sorry to say, it looks like it has been unsuccessful 😬, I propagated about 12 leaves back in September and only one hasn't shrivelled up, it looks like this now. This is my first attempt so very much an inexperienced novice

I kept mine on a northeastern window, lower light, and started misting near the base of the leaves about once a week when I saw some leaves were drying out before the roots were showing. Most of the roots showed up in three weeks.

It looks like you placed a branch on the soil and not individual leaves. The roots grow from the base of the leaves that have fallen off the plant. Google propagating succulents to see more pictures. Also, props should stay out of full sunlight and only get filtered light or a grow light to prevent scorching/burns. 🪴

Well, I guess I done wrong… almost, on all accounts; this was my first succulent prop! Next time, due to your pics and comments, I will do better. So, TXS for posting such helpful info!

Not a problem. I lost my first set of leaves burying them too deeply and watering too much. I fight the urge to keep the soil moist. The set above was mostly left alone with random misting. You can see most leaves were plump for awhile.

Next time put the base of the leafe or stem or root of a leaf in a vase or skmething of water only the base or stem or root ththo so it can grow first then when it is like the size of a normal small pplant or it looks ready after a few months of this put it in soil. Hope this helps
