I am at a loss of what I did wrong. I had two euphorbias in a rectangular terracotta planter. I noticed the one not looking so well several weeks ago. I put it off till today. At this point I’m not even sure if the other one is okay. Pics 2 & 3 is the one that is now in the trash. Pic 4 is my repotting of the one that is in better shape. They were getting watered every 16 days. Soil was high grit, about 80%. They were scheduled to be watered. The soil is totally dry. I just wonder if they weren’t watered enough. Or could it be something else. They were in this rectangular planter since April. Previously in separate planters. Anyone have an idea what I did wrong? I see no pests on plant or in soil. TIA.

    **I’ve never had this plant. But maybe this is helpful… I had a similar situation with my Haworthia Retusa. It was in a 5” terracotta, correct soil, etc. I bottom watered till saturated when it was fully dry and slightly soft, but it wasn’t doing okay. I moved it to a 4” plastic nursery pot, and only water when it’s overdue and it’s slightly soft, and it has exploded. It was too hydrophobic in the terracotta, even though it should have been happy 🤷‍♀️ Conditions: grow light 12” away - 10hrs/day - okay air flow - minimal humidity

    After looking at it more thoroughly, I think you are correct, it was getting too dry. I just watered the other one in its new pot, and it was hydrophobic. Most of my cacti are in terracotta and this was first that went too far. I think my stats were wrong in the app.

    I just want to point out the part where you said “they were getting watered every 16 days.” That’s a red flag, to me - were you checking that the soil was fully dry every time you watered? I know you said it was dry most recently but i wonder if it was always that way?

    I’m usually pretty good about checking the soil before watering. The problem I have is that I find it very difficult to “read” cacti. I know succulents but cacti/euphorbia are very different. So I think it comes down to me not noticing how dry they actually were. Thanks. Much appreciated.
