Those of you who saw my post about my dominos cactus blooming for the first time ever…I’m proud to say that yesterday was the day! One full week from bud to bloom and it wilted by 7pm last night. I got pictures around 6am, so I think I was pretty close to the peak bloom. Does anyone know how often this happens? I tried doing some research but couldn’t find a definitive answer. There’s another bud started that I’m not sure if it will open again this year or if it will wait like the last one did.

      I bought this cactus on a whim last year at the farmers market! I had no idea they they bloom like this, and now it’s one of my favorite to watch grow! Congrats on the gorgeous bloom! Have you ever had multiple happen in a calendar year, or is it only in the spring?

    Most cactus bloom only once a year but I don't know how artificial environment affects that bloom cycle. I think for most cactus the bloom is triggered by periods of drought. Perhaps blooming in the spring before the summer drought begins.

      That would make sense! I tried finding more specific information but everything was so varied depending on the environment and climate, so I wasn’t sure if that other bus was going to bloom in a few weeks or wilt back like these blooms did last year

      I think whether the coming blossom opens or not depends on what the weather does. If it heats up it might shrivel if the conditions remain good it may bloom.
