Is it rotting? :( the base is not mushy at all. It's getting plenty of sunlight and I don't think I am overwatering it. The top parts are actually actively growing. Seems like the brown parts are creeping up. Should I cut the those parts off the base and try to save it? This is Euphorbia leucodendron.

That appears to be normal, healthy eup tissue bark. As arid zone euphorbias age, they naturally gain bark on trunk stems.

Ya, just corking, which is the process of stem converting into a trunk to support the heavy load of new growth so it doesn’t break off.

Oh damn... I cut a whole branch out a month ago thinking it was root rot. Good to know! 😂
